WESTMINSTER, Colo --- Today, the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office filed a First-Degree Murder charge against Sarah Riste, 37, for allegedly stabbing her mother to death inside a home along 92nd Pl in Westminster on Sept. 28.
The filing of a criminal charge is merely a formal accusation that an individual(s) committed offense(s) under Colorado laws. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. See Colo RPC 3.6.

ORIGINAL RELEASE 9/28/25 | The Westminster Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred Sunday afternoon.
Just before 2 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 3300 block of W 92nd Pl after a report of a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers located a deceased adult female inside the home with visible signs of trauma.
Officers contacted an adult female, identified as Sarah Riste, 37, and a child who were also at the residence. After further investigation, detectives determined Riste was the suspect. She was taken into custody and transported to Adams County Jail on the charge of First-Degree Murder.
The child was safely turned over to Child Protective Services.
This is an ongoing investigation, and more information will be released when available.
The Adams County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin as well as the official cause of death. The 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office will make the final determination regarding charges.
It’s important to note all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
