WESTMINSTER, Colo -- WPD is investigating a deadly shooting that occurred late Tuesday night.
Just after 10 p.m., on November 4, officers responded to reports of a disturbance involving weapons at a motel located near 120th Ave and Melody Dr. When they arrived, they found an adult male inside suffering from a gunshot wound. The man was transported to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.
According to preliminary information, two men were involved in a physical altercation that led to the shooting. Officers initially took an adult male into custody at the scene.
During questioning, new information was revealed about the events of that evening. After consulting with the District Attorney’s Office and reviewing the known information, he was released pending further investigation.
These types of investigations are often sensitive and more complex than they may appear. Currently, police are not searching for any additional suspects, and there is no active threat to the community.
The Adams County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin as well as the official cause of death.
It’s important to note all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
