WESTMINSTER, Colo -- One person is in custody after taking off in a stolen vehicle.

Earlier this month, WPD officers responded to a call about a possible shoplift at a business near 88th Ave and Sheridan Blvd. Officers learned the suspect dropped the stolen items before leaving the store and getting into a vehicle believed to be stolen with two other individuals. Officers attempted to make contact with the driver of the vehicle, but he took off at a high rate of speed. Officers did not pursue.

A short time later, officers learned the vehicle had crashed into a fence near the 8400 block of Turnpike Dr. All three occupants were contacted, and the 24-year-old driver was taken into custody on multiple charges, including:

  • Motor Vehicle Theft
  • Vehicular Eluding
  • Reckless Driving

Some people get coal for Christmas… others get a ride to jail. Let's hope they can turn things around and get off Santa's naughty list.
