WESTMINSTER, Colo -- During the holiday season, Westminster Police officers delivered more than 1,500 gifts to families in need.
The Westminster Police Department's Santa Cops program has been running for 19 years, starting back in 2007. This year, more 165 children received gifts just in time for the holidays.
Funded through donations from PD employees, the Westminster Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association (non-profit), community members and businesses, each child receives a coat, a pair of shoes, an outfit and some age-appropriate toys. Families are nominated by officers, school resource officers, school counselors and victim advocates to ensure there is a true need.
On Dec. 17, officers delivered the gifts to each family. You can't beat the smiles we saw.
