Polar Plunge

The WestyPD Copsicles are taking the icy plunge to raise funds for Special Olympics Colorado athletes, and we need your support!

Join us Saturday, March 28 at 9 a.m. for this year's Polar Plunge and 5K at Aurora Reservoir (5800 S Powhaton Rd in Aurora)! Consider joining our team or making a donation to help a great cause!

Every donation helps provide year-round training, competition, and life-changing opportunities for Special Olympics athletes right here in our community.

Shred-A-Thon

Drop by the Public Safety Center (9110 Yates St) on Saturday, May 16 between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m. for the 20th annual Shred-A-Thon with Metro Denver Crime Stoppers! This is a free and convenient way to safely dispose of sensitive, personal documents. All donations will go to Metro Denver Crime Stoppers to help fund rewards for tips that lead to the arrest of criminals wanted by police.

  • 3 bags/boxes of paper are allowed per person

  • Only individuals can participate, businesses are not allowed

  • You don’t need to be a Westminster resident

  • The event is FREE, but donations are encouraged and are tax deductible - cash, debit/credit, check, venmo, paypal.

Teen Police Academy

The Westminster Police Department, in partnership with the Arvada Police Department, hosts a Teen Police Academy to give teens a behind-the-scenes look at the world of law enforcement. Throughout the week-long program, participants will receive a hands-on experience in crime scene investigations, SWAT and building search tactics, emergency vehicle operations, arrest and control tactics, investigations, patrol procedures and more. Teens between the ages of 15 to 18 who live in the City of Westminster or attend high school in Westminster are encouraged to apply! It is preferred teens have a valid Colorado permit or driver's license. Each student’s G.P.A. and school attendance will be reviewed as part of the selection process.

The 2026 Teen Police Academy application is now open and closes on May 2, 2026. The 2026 academy is schedule for June 1 through June 5. Please see your School Resource Officer for additional questions.

National Night Out

On the first Tuesday of every August, the City of Westminster joins forces with thousands of communities nationwide to celebrate National Night Out. Citizens, police and fire personnel, businesses, and community leaders come together to communicate with each other and unite against crime.

Neighbors gather for ice cream socials, backyard barbecues, and potluck dinners in a variety of locations. Westminster City Council, police officers, and firefighters visit these gatherings to socialize and answer questions.

National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, bring neighbors together and strengthen neighborhood spirit, make neighborhoods safer, promote positive partnerships between police and the community, and generate support for local anti-crime programs.
 
A total of 28 neighborhoods participated in the 35th annual National Night Out in 2018. The 2026 National Night Out will be held on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. If you are interested in hosting a National Night Out party in 2026, please email the Community Events and Engagement Team or call 303-658-4290 and provide the following information before July 25, 2026:

Citizens Police Academy

The Westminster Police Department hosts the Citizens Police Academy every year in the fall. The class meets every Wednesday night from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Westminster Public Safety Center located at 9110 Yates Street. The academy runs for 12 weeks with a graduation ceremony on November 12, 2026. The class is limited to about 30 people and all applicants are subject to a background check.
 
The 2026 Academy will run from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. starting Wednesday, August 19 through Wednesday, November 4. The graduation ceremony will be held on Thursday, November 12.
 
Applications to apply for the 2026 Academy will be available in mid-May.

The Citizens Police Academy is an engaging and exciting way to gain insight into law enforcement and experience the daily operations within the Westminster Police Department and is designed to build a bond of mutual trust and respect between the Police Department and our citizens. The Citizens Academy offers direct contact with police instructors through lectures, hands-on experience, and demonstrations.

Low Cost Pet Vaccination Clinic

WPD Animal Management, in partnership with SpayToday Healthy Pet Center, is hosting a pet vaccination clinic at the West View Recreation Center (10747 W 108th Ave) on Saturday, August 15 from 9 a.m. from 1 p.m.
 
Dog Services:
  • Rabies Vaccine: $20
  • Bordetella: $25
  • Leptospirosis*: $25
  • Distemper/Parvo: $20
  • Microchip: $30
  • Pyrantel (Dewormer): $5

Cat Services:

  • Rabies Vaccine: $20

All leashed dogs and restrained cats are welcome! You do not need to be a Westminster resident to participate and there is no appointment necessary. Please bring any previous vaccine records. Please note the event may be postponed in the case of inclement weather. Any updates or announcements will be shared on our social media channels.

SpayToday Healthy Pet Center will be on-site administering vaccines. Colorado Pet Pantry, an organization that provides pet food to families in need, will also be at the clinic.
