WESTMINSTER, Colo – As the investigation and court process move forward, we are now able to share an update regarding the deadly shooting that occurred at Wolff Run Park on Jan. 10.
Kenny Espinosa, 27, and Charity Johnson, 35, were arrested back on Jan. 13 in Eagle County regarding their involvement and booked into the Adams County Jail. They are both facing a number of charges.
Espinosa is facing:
- First Degree Murder (F1)
- Criminal Attempt to Commit Murder in the First Degree (F2)
- First Degree Assault (F3)
- Second Degree Assault (F4)
- Vehicular Eluding (F5)
- 2 Counts of Child Abuse (M2)
Johnson is facing:
- 2 Counts Accessory to a Class 1 Felony
- 2 Counts Attempt to Influence a Public Servant
- 2 Counts of Child Abuse
We are incredibly proud of our officers and detectives for the dedication and tireless work they put into this case. Our thoughts remain with the victim’s family as they continue to navigate this heartbreaking loss.
The filing of a criminal charge is merely a formal accusation that an individual(s) committed offense(s) under Colorado laws. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. See Colo RPC 3.6.

WESTMINSTER, Colo [UPDATE 1/14/26] – Two people are now in custody related to a deadly shooting over the weekend at Wolff Run Park.
Tuesday afternoon, authorities arrested Kenny Espinosa, 27, and Charity Johnson, 35 on suspicion of first-degree murder in Eagle County. Espinosa was taken to an area hospital for medical clearance and once released, will be booked into the Adams County Jail. Johnson was transported and booked into the Adams County Jail.
We would like to thank the Eagle County Sheriff’s Office for their dedication and assistance throughout this investigation. We also appreciate the community’s patience as detectives worked diligently to identify those responsible and make arrests. This is a devastating loss, and our thoughts remain with the victim’s family during this incredibly difficult time.
The investigation is ongoing, and more information will be released when available.
The 17th Judicial District Attorney’s Office will make an official charging decision in this case. It is important to note all persons are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

WESTMINSTER, Colo [1/10/26]– The Westminster Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred early Saturday morning.
Just after 7 a.m., officers responded to a welfare check on a report of a man lying face down in the parking lot of Wolff Run Park, located at 4705 W 76th Ave. Upon arrival, officers located a deceased man in his late 20’s with several visible gunshot wounds.
Witnesses who live in the area reported hearing multiple gun shots around 2 a.m., then observed a dark-colored, newer model sedan leaving the park. Police were not called at that time.
WPD is asking the public for their assistance with this investigation. If you live in the area, please check your video cameras between the hours of 1:30 a.m. and 3 a.m. If you have any information or video, please call our non-emergency number at 303-658-4360.
This appears to be an isolated incident and there is no immediate danger to the public. The Adams County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin as well as the official cause of death.
This is an ongoing investigation, and more information will be released when available.
