Date: 04/20/2026
WESTMINSTER, Colo -- We want to make our community aware of an ongoing scam targeting residents.
We’ve received reports of individuals calling residents while claiming to be law enforcement officers with the Westminster Police Department. The caller alleges there is criminal activity associated with the individual and instructs them to “cooperate” by purchasing gift cards and providing the access codes over the phone. This is a scam!
A couple quick reminders:
- NEVER provide financial information over the phone
- If you are contacted by law enforcement, we will never ask for money, gift cards, or PayPal cards
- No government uses gift cards or PayPal cards to conduct business
- Scammers like to create a sense of urgency
- When skepticism is expressed by the victim, the scammers often become more aggressive and try to make the matter seem more urgent
Please share this with your loved ones to help keep our community safe. If you sense something is off, trust your gut.
