WESTMINSTER, Colo -- It’s Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness and remind our community that help is available.
At WPD, our Co-Responder Unit (CRU) pairs licensed mental health professionals with police officers to respond to behavioral health and substance abuse-related calls for service. They also work alongside firefighters, animal management officers, and homeless navigators to connect people in crisis with the support and resources.
Their impact is significant. From January through March alone, the CRU responded to 345 in-person calls for service, already helping hundreds of people so far this year.
If you or someone you know is experiencing a life-threatening crisis, call 911 and request a Co-Responder. If you would like to speak with a Co-Responder but are not in immediate crisis, please call 303-706-3100.
