WESTMINSTER, Colo -- If you see something, say something.
Last week, a Jefferson County judge sentenced James Maestas, 41, to 30 years up to life in prison, related to a robbery and sexual assault that occurred at a business in Westminster.
This comes after a vigilant citizen called 911 on 2/22/2025 after seeing suspicious activity happening in the business. #WPD officers were able to respond immediately and interrupt the crimes taking place. Further investigation revealed Maestas had attempted to rob the business and then assaulted the sole employee inside.
In May, Maestas was convicted of five counts, including:
- Sexual Assault (F4)
- Kidnapping (F2)
- Robbery (F4)
- Theft
This case highlights the value of “See Something, Say Something.” We are thankful for the citizen who trusted their instincts and called 911 when something seemed wrong, and for the collaborative efforts with the First Judicial District Attorney's Office that helped bring this offender to justice.
