Community alert warning about phone scams impersonating law enforcement targeting residents.
Date: 10/22/2026
WESTMINSTER, Colo -- We’ve received reports of individuals impersonating Westminster Police Department officers over the phone.
These callers may spoof caller ID to make it appear the call is coming from a legitimate law enforcement agency. They may claim you have an active warrant and pressure you to “cooperate” by purchasing gift cards and sharing the access codes or providing other sensitive information.
A couple quick reminders...
- If you are contacted by law enforcement, we will never ask for money, gift cards, or PayPal cards.
- NEVER provide financial information over the phone
- No government uses gift cards or PayPal cards to conduct business
- Scammers like to create a sense of urgency
When skepticism is expressed by the victim, the scammers often become more aggressive and try to make the matter seem more urgent
Please share this with your loved ones to help keep our community safe. If you sense something is off, trust your gut.
