Yearly, the Westminster Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association chooses to honor a department employee with their Employee of the Year award. This year, there were six nominations, and after a very difficult decision, the Alumni chose Victim Advocate Amy Christensen.
In part, Amy’s nomination read: Amy worked as an on-call Victim Advocate for the Westminster Police Department for 13 years before moving to the Westminster Municipal Court to work as a court Advocate in our Fast Track Domestic Violence Program. The Fast Track Domestic Violence program provides direct services to victims and families of misdemeanor Domestic Violence crimes in our city. The position requires knowledge of both the police process and the court process of the criminal justice system. The court victim advocate walks the Victim and families through the court process and through the probation process as well. It is a very involved and interactive relationship with the victim and families
Amy consistently provided excellent and compassionate services to victims of crime in our city. She has worked with thousands of victims in her career but has worked intimately with 223 victim/families of domestic violence in our courts I the last 2 years. She has assisted victims with $39,546.61 of direct financial assistance for rent, car insurance, security systems, utilities, food and basic necessities, safe hotel stays and moving expenses. These direct services help families of domestic violence from becoming homeless and provides stability for children.
Please congratulate Amy for her selection as this year’s WCPAAA Employee of the Year.
