WESTMINSTER, Colo — A teen is in custody after bringing a gun on school grounds Friday afternoon.
On Friday, Sept. 26, WPD received a tip that a student at Mountain Range High School may have brought a gun onto campus. After investigating, officers learned the student did not attend classes that day, but arrived on campus after school was dismissed.
A WPD School Resource Officer (SRO) contacted the student outside near the bus stop, who admitted to having a handgun in his possession. The teen was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Adams County Juvenile Detention Center.
At this time, no threatening statements toward students or staff have been identified. The safety of students, school staff, and our community remains our top priority.
We understand how serious these incidents are and remain fully committed to maintaining a safe learning environment. We are proud to have a dedicated and professional SRO team working every day to protect our schools.
Students and staff are reminded that anonymous safety concerns can be made through Safe2Tell at 1-877-542-SAFE or online at safe2tell.org.
