WPD makes arrests in homicide case

WESTMINSTER, Colo [UPDATE 11/10/25] -- The 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office accepted murder charges against Daniel Romero, 19, and Michael Fernandez Jr., 24, related to a deadly shooting on Oct. 27 on Nov. 10.

Romero is charged with:

  • First-Degree Murder (F1)
  • Second-Degree Murder (F2)
  • Attempted Robbery (F5)
  • Conspiracy to Commit Robbery (F5)
  • Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender (F5)

Fernandez Jr. is charged with:

  • Second-Degree Murder (F2)
  • Attempted Robbery (F5)

The filing of a criminal charge is merely a formal accusation that an individual(s) committed offense(s) under Colorado laws. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. See Colo RPC 3.6.

WESTMINSTER, Colo [UPDATE 11/6/25] -- Two men are in custody following an attempted carjacking that turned deadly on Oct. 27 in Westminster.

On Wednesday, Nov. 5, WPD arrested the suspected shooter, Daniel Romero, 19, on first degree murder charges and Michael Fernandez Jr., 24, who was driving the suspect vehicle when the incident occurred, on second degree murder charges.

Both suspects were transported to Adams County Jail. The case will be presented to the 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office who will make an official charging decision. It's important to note all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

WESTMINSTER, Colo --  The Westminster Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred Monday evening.

Just before 8 p.m., officers responded to a parking lot in the 8400 block of Decatur St. for reports of shots fired. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive adult female inside a vehicle with gunshot wounds. Westminster Fire and Rescue responded and attempted life saving measures. The victim was transported to a local hospital where she later died from her injuries.
 
The Adams County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity pending notification of next of kin as well as the official cause of death.
