WESTMINSTER, Colo -- After nearly 38 years with WPD, Senior Police Officer Heather Wood is officially retiring!
Today, Officer Wood holds the distinction of being the longest-serving female officer in WPD history. She began her law enforcement career with WPD in 1989 serving as an explorer and working in equipment services, and was officially sworn in by 1992.

During her 35-year distinguished career as a sworn officer, she has served in many roles, including Patrol Officer, D.A.R.E. Officer, Field Training Officer, Public Information Officer, Peer Support Team member, and Training Coordinator. Officer Wood has received numerous awards throughout her service, including the department’s Meritorious Service Award, Optimist Club Officer of the Year Award, and Outstanding Community Supporter Award.

In her retirement letter Officer Wood shared, "I am fiercely proud to call myself a Westminster Police Officer and to have been allowed to work amongst the best of the best. It has been an honor and privilege that I will always carry with me."
