WESTMINSTER, Colo -- Animal Management Officers (AMOs) responded to a call involving two goslings tangled in fishing line at Stratford Lakes Park. After carefully capturing the pair, officers were able to remove a fishing hook from one of the goslings and free them from the entanglement.
Incidents like this are a reminder that fishing gear left behind can have serious consequences for wildlife. When fishing around wildlife, consider using barbless hooks and circle hooks, which can reduce injuries and are easier to remove if an animal becomes accidentally hooked. Biodegradable fishing line and gear can also help minimize long-term hazards.
Most importantly, always pack up your gear at the end of the day to help prevent future wildlife injuries and save lives.
