Date – December 5, 2021
This afternoon around 2:30pm Westminster Officers responded to a single vehicle crash in the 10300 block of Wadsworth Parkway. An officer who was in the area saw a person matching the description of the suspect, believed to be the driver, walking in the ditch. This ditch is just north of Standley Lake High School.
When the officer attempted to contact the suspect, the adult male fired at the officer. The officer returned fire and then lost sight of the suspect. When other officers arrived, they contacted the suspect in the ditch and rendered aid. The suspect was transported to the hospital where he died from his injuries. The identity of the male will be released by the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
We believe there was only one person inside of the vehicle and there is no additional danger to the public. It was later determined the vehicle was stolen during an armed carjacking earlier this morning. 104th Avenue will be closed between Garrison and Holland while the incident is being investigated. Please use 108th Avenue as an alternate route in and out of the neighborhood.
At the time of this incident there were band activities going on inside Standley Lake High School. Officers checked on the students and asked them to stay inside of the school. This incident was not school related.
This information is preliminary and the 17th Judicial Critical Incident Response Team will investigate this incident along with the 1st Judicial Critical Incident Team.
