WESTMINSTER, Colo -- The Westminster Police Department is investigating a stabbing that was reported late last night at McKay Lake.
On Monday, Aug. 25, just before 11 p.m., WPD officers responded to a call for an agency assist regarding a reported stabbing near 144th Ave and Zuni St in Broomfield. It was later determined the incident occurred in Westminster on the southwest shoreline of McKay Lake.
Upon arrival, officers observed blood near the lake’s shoreline. They learned that a 60-year-old man had called 911 to report a non-life-threatening stab wound and drove himself to a nearby hospital.
The victim told officers he had been fishing at the lake with an unknown individual wearing a rain jacket and tan shorts. That person left, and about 30 minutes later, the victim said he was stabbed by a different unknown individual. After the incident, the victim reported calling 911, walking to a nearby parking lot, and then driving himself to the hospital. He described the suspect as a male wearing a dark-colored rain jacket and dark pants.
Officers canvassed the area and deployed a drone in search of a suspect. They contacted two individuals, but neither appeared connected to the stabbing at this time.
If you were in the area between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m., Monday night and have any information that could help this case, please call the Westminster Police Department at 303-658-4360.
