Date: 09/29/2025
WESTMINSTER, Colo -- After 27 years with WPD, Detective Kent Hampshire is officially retiring!
Detective Hampshire started with WPD in 1998 and over the years served as a Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, School Resource Officer, Peer Support Member, EVOC Instructor, Citizens Academy Instructor and Detective. The majority of his career was dedicated to investigating crimes against children and sexual assault cases — an immensely difficult but critical assignment. His dedication and service were recognized with the department’s Meritorious and Valorous Service Awards, as well as being named the Westminster Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association Employee of the Year.
In his retirement letter Detective Hampshire shared, "When I became a police officer, I never thought I would experience what I have experienced nor see what I have seen. From the worst of society to the best. It has truly been enlightening. It has been my privilege to work beside some of the most heroic and brave people I have ever met. Being a part of such an outstanding group of individuals has been an honor. I will greatly miss the friendships and relationships that I have made over the years. Hopefully, those memories will never fade. I appreciate everyone that made this ride memorable, and you will always be in my thoughts and in my prayers. Please remain safe and continue to take care of each other.”
From your WPD family: Kent, we can’t thank you enough for your service and dedication to this community. Your determination, stories, and humor will be deeply missed. While we’re sad to see you go, you’ve truly earned this retirement, and we are wishing you all the best! Congratulations, sir! #WestyPD
