One man in custody after hotel barricade situation

WESTMINSTER, Colo -- One man is in custody after a lengthy barricade situation at a hotel Saturday afternoon.

At around 2:30 p.m., WPD officers responded to the Hyatt Place hotel located off Church Ranch Blvd and 103rd Ave regarding a man who was refusing to leave his hotel room.
When officers contacted the individual, he pulled a knife on them and barricaded himself inside the hotel room on the sixth floor. After further investigation, it was revealed the suspect had a lengthy criminal history. Officers evacuated guests out of several floors of the hotel.
 
SWAT, negotiators and co-responders responded out to the scene to assist. After more than three hours of negotiations, the suspect exited the room and was taken into custody. He was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
 
The 59-year-old man is facing several charges including felony menacing and trespass.
 
It’s important to note all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
