AMO Meketuk with the bobcat
Date: 10/21/25
WESTMINSTER, Colo --- On Sunday, Oct. 19, WPD Animal Management Officer (AMO) Meketuk responded to a rather wild call — a bobcat decided to let itself into a Westminster home through an open door.
Luckily, the homeowner was able to "shoo" the bobcat out of the house. But, apparently he liked the place because he was still outside hanging out in the backyard the next morning. That’s when WPD got the call.

AMO Meketuk responded and safely caught the bobcat, but it was clear something wasn't right. After consulting with Colorado Parks and Wildlife, it was determined the bobcat was sick and had to be humanely euthanized.
Not the outcome we wanted, but we share this story as a reminder that there are bobcats and other wildlife in Westminster. Bobcats, specifically, are primarily solitary animals and can be seen throughout the day, mainly in during dawn and dusk. They are shy, elusive and generally avoid humans, but may hunt small livestock or pets if they are not secured.
