WESTMINSTER, Colo -- The suspected shooter in a shooting that injured two people on Nov. 8 is in custody.

Authorities took Fernando Velasquez, 21, into custody on an arrest warrant for Attempted Murder and 1st Degree Assault Wednesday night. Velasquez was transported to the Jefferson County Jail.

This is still an ongoing investigation. An official charging decision will be made by the Jefferson County District Attorney's Office.

The filing of a criminal charge is merely a formal accusation that an individual(s) committed offense(s) under Colorado laws. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. See Colo RPC 3.6

ORIGINAL RELEASE 11/10/25 

WESTMINSTER, Colo -- The Westminster Police Department is investigating a shooting that injured two people over the weekend.

On November 8, just after 10 p.m., officers with the Westminster Police Department responded to reports of a shooting near the area of 88th Ave and Field St.

When officers arrived on scene, they found a male lying on the ground near a vehicle. After further investigation, it was determined the male had sustained multiple gunshot wounds before driving off the road into a fence. A front-seat juvenile passenger had minor injuries, and a rear-seat passenger was uninjured.

The male driver was transported to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition. The juvenile passenger was also transported to the hospital with minor injuries and later released. Initial statements from the victim vehicle’s occupants indicated that an unknown vehicle began firing multiple rounds at them as they traveled eastbound on 88th Avenue.

Detectives are working to identify the suspect. This incident appears to be isolated, and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
