WESTMINSTER, Colo -- Earlier this month, WPD officers responded to the old Moore Middle School after security reported two people had broken into the building. Officers quickly set up a perimeter, and K9 Ferro was brought in to help search the school which, by the way, is a massive building.

K9 Ferro got to work and alerted officers by showing interest in a certain area of a classroom, specifically towards the ceiling. Sure enough, the suspects were hiding in the ceiling. A 16-year-old and an 18-year-old were taken into custody.

Our K9 teams are an incredibly valuable part of the department. The dogs’ training and ability to locate suspects helps officers resolve situations quickly and safely. And just as important are the dedicated handlers who train with and work alongside their K9 partners every day. It takes a strong partnership and a lot of trust. Great teamwork all around.
