WESTMINSTER, Colo -- The Westminster Police Department encourages community members to use our parking lot as a designated Safe Exchange Zone when completing transactions arranged through Facebook Marketplace, Nextdoor, Craigslist and other online platforms.

Our parking lot provides a well-lit location at a police facility to help promote safer exchanges between buyers and sellers. While we encourage the use of this space, WPD personnel are not able to participate in transactions, act as official witnesses, provide legal advice, or mediate civil or pricing disputes. Officers may only intervene if a safety concern or criminal matter arises.
Safety tips for completing online transactions:
- Only do transactions with local buyers/sellers
- Do not go to a transaction alone
- Make sure a friend or family member is aware of the transaction details
- Insist on meeting in a public area like our safe transaction zones
