WESTMINSTER, Colo -- Like many cities across the metro area, WPD is seeing an increase in copper wire and backflow preventer thefts in Westminster.
Thieves are targeting copper wiring in light poles and in-ground electrical boxes. Known locations impacted include the Westminster RTD Station, downtown Westminster, the US 36 corridor, and cell phone towers.
We are also seeing backflow preventers being stolen from homes under construction, parks, and office buildings. These crimes are costing our local residents and businesses thousands of dollars!
Please, please be vigilant and if you see something suspicious, call 911 immediately. We'd love to surprise these thieves and catch them in the act!
