Westminster Police Department Hosts Citizens Police Academy
Beginning August 22nd the Westminster Police Department will host the 47th Citizens Police Academy. This program began in 1997 as a way to create a partnership and strengthen police ties within the community. The Citizens Police Academy is a free 13-week course taught each Tuesday night from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Classes combine lecture and “hands-on” experience on topics such as: criminal law, officer survival, DUI and traffic enforcement, arrest control, and crime scene investigations. This academy is a great way for citizens to learn more about the police department and public safety. After graduating, attendees are invited to join the Westminster Police Citizens Academy Alumni Association. The alumni association has over 185 members who volunteer at the police department and receive ongoing education and training.
This course is free, but sign up quickly, space is limited and applicants are taken on a first come first serve basis. If you are interested in attending the Citizens Police Academy please fill out an application, either online at www.cityofwestminster.us or at the police department, and return it to Investigator Cheri Spottke at 303-658-4421 or by email at cspottke@cityofwestminster.us
